Family disc golf this afternoon - 

Yesterday I took a day trip to Elk River, MN.  I read about a quilt shop there in a quilt magazine, and I figured that as long as I was in the area I might as well try to take it in.  I left late morning and drove about 35-40 miles to Elk River.  

In doing a little more research, I found out that there was another quilt shop in town called Cottage Quilts and Fabrics.  It didn't look like much from the outside, and it was a little difficult to get to because of some road construction. That's a shame because I thought they had a very nice selection of fabrics and lots of completed quilts and wallhangings that were really lovely.  I bought a couple fat quarters and a couple patterns there and got a chance to chat with the owner - nice guy.  

Next stop was lunch, then on to The Noble Quilter - the shop I read about in the magazine.  It was also lovely - bought some more fabric - of course - also a book and a couple patterns.  

No trip to a new town is complete without a visit to the local library - so I added the Elk River Library to my library collection!

Before I left town, I wanted to visit their downtown and go to a restaurant that apparently served hamburgers and malts.  I figured that if they had malts they must have ice cream - my actual goal.  Before ice cream, I decided to take a little walk - and found The Great Room, a couple lovely murals, a fountain, and a view of the Mississippi.  The Great Room is a flea market/antique-type store that supports a group called Faith In Action.  I chatted with the lovely volunteers there and helped support their worthy cause by purchasing 2 book shelves (small and miniature sized), a hanging plate rack, a picture, a tray and a shutter.  

I got lost on the way back to Richfield - the details are boring so I won't go into it any further.  Except to thank Derek and Shawna for their cell phone support! :-)

A different walking place today - on a very hot and muggy day.  Maggie and went to Centennial Lakes Park which is kind of an offshoot from Edina Promenade (that post is somewhere below).  It's a great park.  In my park rating post - also below - it's right up there with Augsburg Park - but entirely different.  Lots fancier and not as shady.  Here are the pics - 

I haven't taken many pictures of my wonderful grandson the last few days.  He's been adorable, as usual!  We went to a quilt store and a fabric store this afternoon - I'm helping Shawna make a quilt.  That was almost as much fun as hanging out with Duncan!

The pictures following are from my walk last Friday, the 21st.  Shawna and Duncan stayed home, so Maggie and I took our walk on the Edina Promenade. It's a lovely walk although there is little or no shade.  

Shawna, Duncan, Maggie and I took our usual walk today - we were going to try walking on the track at the high school.  So I could take it slow and Shawna could forge ahead at her quicker pace.  There were kids practicing there so we went to Augsburg Park instead.  I really liked that park - nice and shady - and I told Shawna that we should try different parks and keep track of which ones we like best.  So, for the record - 

• Adams Hill - not bad, a little too hilly
• Lake Cornelia - quite good but the green water bothers me a little
• Augsburg - my favorite so far, lots of shade and nice playground structures

We're pretty excited at my daughter's house watching Spurs vs. Heat.  The Spurs are making us really nervous, so I need to calm down and post photos of my grandson!  I have a lot today - and I couldn't decide on just one, so here's two!

We had a pretty busy Father's Day today.  We went to church in the morning, and out for lunch early in the afternoon.  We went to Eat Street Social in Minneapolis - Shawna and I had a mushroom burger that was absolutely fabulous.  Not with a portobello mushroom - they made a veggie burger out of chopped up mushrooms and, I am assuming, some kind of grain and eggs to bind it together.  Probably other yummy stuff, too.  I also had a Michelada which was a combination of Carta Blanca, bloody mary mix, slice of lime, pepper - and probably more yummy stuff.  Wish I had a picture - it was a great meal.  Derek (my SIL) and I went to Barnes & Noble later in the afternoon, then watched the Spurs beat the Heat in the evening.
